Looking After Your Needle Felted Pet

A few simple habits will keep your felted friend looking just as they did the day they came home. Here’s how to look after yours, and what to do if anything happens.

  • Out of direct sun
  • Somewhere dry
  • Up out of reach

Keeping Them Looking Their Best

Out of Direct Sun

Strong sunlight fades wool over time. I’ve seen it happen, so choose a shelf out of direct sun rather than a sunny windowsill.

Somewhere Dry

Damp isn’t kind to wool, so keep yours away from steamy kitchens and bathrooms. Please don’t wash it or get it wet.

A Gentle Dust

Every now and then, brush away any dust with a soft, dry brush, working lightly over the wool.

Up Out of Reach

Pets can mistake a felt for a toy, and it does happen. It’s made for display rather than play, so keep it up high, away from curious paws and little hands.

Hold It by the Plinth

Each felt is glued to its wooden plinth and has wire inside its legs, so lift it by the plinth and try not to bend the legs.

Putting It Away

If you need to store yours, pop it in a box with a tight-fitting lid and keep it somewhere dry. Clothes moths like wool left undisturbed in the dark, so check on it now and then.

If Something Happens

If yours gets damaged, chewed or faded, send me a photo and I’ll take a look. Every felt is different, so I’ll let you know whether I can fix it.

If it’s been chewed, keep it well away from children and pets in the meantime, as the wire inside the legs may be showing.
